Faster than crutches. By a lot.

No. No licence, no registration, no theory test. You do need to be able to sit, steer and brake by yourself — and we practise that together at delivery.

In practice: on the cycle path, and on the road where there isn’t one. On the pavement, walking pace and politely around people. It does 18 km/h, so you keep up with cycle traffic without it ever feeling fast. Straight with you, though: this is not an RDW-approved mobility scooter and it has no registration plate. Plenty of vehicles like it are on Dutch streets, but formally you ride it on your own responsibility. I would rather say that up front than afterwards — if you are unsure whether that matters for your situation, ask before you book.

Enough for a normal day in the city, with room to spare. Hills, wind, your weight and the temperature all matter — you’ll get less in January than in June. It charges from a normal socket and is full again overnight.

Riding in the rain is fine — this is Rotterdam. Just don’t leave it standing in a puddle for days, and charge it under cover or indoors. Ask and I’ll bring a cover.

Call me — you have had my number since delivery. Normal wear is my problem, not yours: I come out and fix it, or swap the scooter. Only damage from careless use reaches your own contribution, and that is capped.

Yes, and you get it back. You pay it on delivery, and it’s returned to your account within five working days of me collecting the scooter.

On delivery, by iDEAL link or cash — whichever suits. Nothing is payable when you request, and you don’t have to leave card details anywhere.

Usually. Let me know before your period ends and I’ll check whether anyone is behind you in the calendar. You then simply pay the rate for the new total period.

Yes. Outside the municipality I charge the trip by distance — you’ll see the exact amount as soon as you enter your postcode. Further than an hour away? Ask anyway, it often still works.

Damage to other people, vehicles or property falls under your own liability — so check that you have Dutch WA (third-party liability) cover. For the scooter itself, I pay the first €200 of any repair; above that you share the cost up to a maximum of €400. It never costs you more than €400, whatever happens. Normal wear is always mine.

Report it to the police and send me the report. If you can produce both keys — the scooter’s and the chain lock’s — it costs you €100. If either is missing, it is €400. That sounds strict, but it is exactly how Dutch bicycle insurers work, and for the same reason: a scooter that was actually locked rarely gets stolen.

150 kg maximum. That is the total: you, anyone on the extra seat, and whatever is in the basket — not 150 kg each. If you are near that, ask before booking and we will work out together whether it makes sense. Over the limit it rides badly, gets less range from a charge, and brakes worse.

There is a small extra seat. You can use it, as long as the two of you plus luggage stay under 150 kg and you take it gently — it is not a two-seater for heading out along the dyke. Two-up on the pavement or in heavy traffic: better not.

Yes, and it costs nothing. Tick it on your request and it will already be fitted when I arrive. Useful for shopping, a bag or your coat — on a scooter you have no free hand.

Twelve months on the motor, controller and frame. Wear parts like tyres and brake pads are excluded. Those twelve months sit on top of your statutory rights under Dutch law, which do not expire, have no fixed term — and for the first year the burden of proof is on me, not you.

It folds, and goes in a generous boot or on the back seat with the seats down. Don’t lift it alone — it’s heavier than it looks. For delivery none of this is your problem, though; I handle it.

That’s exactly what the delivery is. I ride a lap with you, and if after ten minutes it turns out not to be for you, I take it away again and you only pay the delivery.
